The Detroit Jazz Festival is one of the largest free jazz festivals in the world, held every Labor Day weekend in downtown Detroit.
2027 dates
The festival’s official 2027 listing shows the 48th annual Detroit Jazz Festival on September 3 to 6, 2027, with free admission. Check detroitjazzfest.org for the lineup and stage schedule as they are released.
Tickets and VIP
General admission is free. The festival also sells paid VIP experience packages, including the Guardian Package, a Lincoln Garden VIP experience and Jazz Pazz packages. See the official VIP packages page for current options and prices.
Where to stay
Because admission is free, hotels are the main cost. Book early, since Labor Day weekend fills downtown. The festival’s 2026 FAQ named the Marriott Detroit Renaissance Center as its host hotel and said hotel packages were still to come, so check for 2027 details before you book.
Plan your trip
Plan a sit-down dinner at a Black-owned restaurant while you are in the city, and book a group block early if you are traveling with friends or family.
We have reached out to the festival about a partnership. Nothing is confirmed yet, and we will say so here when it is.
